In a recent Big Bash League (BBL) match, Melbourne Stars’ captain, Glenn Maxwell, showcased his humorous side while being mic’d up during the game against Sydney Thunder on December 23, 2023.
Maxwell’s banter with the commentators, particularly former fast bowler Brett Lee, revealed his playful take on the game.
When Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf took the ball, Maxwell quipped, “Geez, they [fast bowlers] just wanna bowl bouncers.” Lee defended the tactic, saying, “Nothing wrong with that, skip.”
Later in the match, Rauf requested his fielder to move back to long-on, prompting Maxwell to jokingly remark, “Come on, you bowl 150 mate, back of a length.
It’s his second ball! Seriously, Binga [Lee], what is wrong with you, the quicks?” Maxwell cheered when Rauf bowled a dot ball, saying, “Nice! Raufy, you get a dot ball. Yes, you mate! Well done.”
Even when Maxwell had a misfield, he humorously took a dig at himself, saying, “I could’ve intercepted the ball three months ago,” playfully referring to his age.
The light-hearted moments captured on the mic added an entertaining dimension to the game. It raises curiosity about the possibility of introducing mics attached to fielding players in leagues like the Pakistan Super League (PSL), offering a new perspective to the audience.
