Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for his recent medical assessment, not to Shifa International Hospital as earlier reports suggested.

The clarification comes after a wave of media speculation about the former prime minister’s health, which has been a recurring talking point amid his ongoing legal battles and political rallies. Initial coverage claimed Khan had been rushed to Shifa, a private facility in the capital, prompting questions about the level of care he was receiving and the transparency of the process.

Tarar explained that the decision to use PIMS was made after consultations with senior medical advisers, emphasizing that the government‑run hospital offers specialised diagnostic capabilities and is situated within close reach of key ministries. He noted that the choice was driven by the need for a comprehensive examination rather than any political messaging.

According to the minister, the checks conducted at PIMS were routine, and Khan’s condition remains stable. No serious findings have been reported so far, and the Information Ministry will issue further updates if necessary. The clarification seeks to curb rumours that could affect the Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf’s mobilisation efforts ahead of upcoming electoral contests, where Khan’s health has been a focal point for both supporters and opponents.
