The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports announced that eight of its major regional offices will now operate until midnight, Monday to Friday. The revised timetable began on 20 August 2026 and will remain in effect indefinitely, giving applicants a broader window to submit documents, attend interviews and collect passports without having to take a day off.
Officials highlighted that long queues and limited daytime hours have long been a source of frustration for many Pakistanis, especially those employed in the private sector, students, and overseas workers who must travel to the nearest office. By keeping the counters open late into the night, the department hopes to spread the daily footfall more evenly, thereby reducing crowding and shortening processing delays.
The policy also aligns with the government’s broader agenda of digitising and expediting public services. Earlier this year, the DG’s office launched an online appointment system and introduced mobile verification units; extending office hours complements these initiatives by offering a physical fallback for applicants who still need in‑person assistance.
While the midnight schedule is limited to weekdays, weekend services will continue as before. Citizens are encouraged to book appointments through the official portal to make the most of the new hours and avoid unnecessary waiting.
