Petrol climbs by Rs 0.27 per litre, while diesel jumps Rs 1.64.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) confirmed that, effective immediately, the retail price of petrol will be raised by Re 0.27 per litre and the price of high‑speed diesel (HSD) will go up by Rs 1.64 per litre across the nation. The adjustment was announced on the evening of 20 August 2026 and will be reflected in the next fuel pump reading at service stations nationwide.
Officials attributed the hike to modest movements in global crude‑oil markets coupled with recent fluctuations in the Pakistani rupee against major currencies. While the shifts in international oil prices were not dramatic, the combination of a slightly weaker exchange rate and marginally higher import costs prompted regulators to fine‑tune domestic fuel tariffs to preserve the financial equilibrium of the sector.
The increase, though numerically small, will be felt most acutely by commuters, haulage operators, and small businesses that rely heavily on road transport. Higher fuel costs translate into marginally higher fares for public transport, elevated operating expenses for logistics firms, and a modest squeeze on household budgets already coping with persistent inflationary pressures.
Industry analysts note that the current revision falls within the typical monthly volatility range for Pakistan’s fuel prices. OGRA has pledged to keep a close watch on international oil trends and currency movements, signaling that any further adjustments will be data‑driven and communicated promptly to minimise surprise for consumers.
