What happened?
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia announced that its Applied Mathematics School (AMS) for the 2026 academic year will be fully financed for Pakistani candidates. The twelve‑week intensive program, which focuses on advanced topics in mathematics, statistics, physics and computational sciences, will cover tuition, travel, accommodation, health insurance and a modest stipend.

Why does it matter for Pakistan?
Pakistan’s higher‑education system is grappling with a shortage of research‑oriented training in quantitative disciplines. By offering a completely funded place at a world‑class research university, KAUST provides a rare avenue for bright Pakistani undergraduates and recent graduates to gain exposure to cutting‑edge methodologies and international collaborations. Participants can bring back new skills and networks that could help strengthen local universities, research institutes and industry sectors that rely on data‑driven decision‑making.

What’s next for interested students?
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree—or be in the final year of a four‑year program—in a relevant field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science or engineering. The selection process involves an online application, academic transcripts, a statement of purpose and two references. The deadline for submissions is slated for early November 2026, after which a shortlist will be invited for virtual interviews. Successful candidates will receive an official award letter outlining the logistics and visa requirements for travel to Thuwal, Saudi Arabia.
