Malik Muhammad Babar Ayyaz has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (BAJK), taking over the reins from the former leadership team on 4 August 2026. The move comes as the bank seeks to strengthen its presence in the region and expand its product portfolio to meet the growing financial needs of residents and businesses in Azad‑Kashmir.

Ayyaz brings more than 27 years of experience in Pakistan’s banking and financial services sector. Prior to joining BAJK, he held senior positions in several leading banks, where he was responsible for strategy development, risk management and operational efficiency. His track record includes leading digital transformation initiatives and driving inclusive banking programs that broadened access to credit for underserved communities.

In his new role, Ayyaz will oversee all aspects of the bank’s operations, from retail and corporate banking to treasury and compliance. He has outlined a strategic plan that focuses on enhancing customer experience, expanding the branch network in remote areas, and leveraging technology to streamline services. The bank’s board expressed confidence that his experience will help BAJK navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and capitalize on emerging market opportunities.

The appointment is part of a broader effort by the government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to modernise the region’s financial infrastructure. By appointing a seasoned executive with a proven record in Pakistan’s banking industry, BAJK aims to improve financial inclusion, support local entrepreneurship, and contribute to the economic development of the area.
