Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert that the ninth and likely final monsoon spell of the season has begun across parts of the province, and it is expected to persist until 17 September. The warning, released on 13 September, calls for residents to stay vigilant as continuous rain could trigger flooding and water‑logging in vulnerable areas.

Meteorological services say a low‑pressure system moving eastward from the Arabian Sea will bring steady to heavy showers to central and southern districts, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan. Forecast models predict intermittent downpours for the next four days, with the most intense rainfall projected for 14‑15 September. The system is expected to weaken by the weekend, but sporadic showers may linger until the end of the alert period.

The upcoming spell follows eight earlier bouts of monsoon rain that have already caused widespread disruption. Cumulative rainfall this season has pushed several rivers, notably the Ravi and Sutlej, close to their danger levels, and low‑lying neighbourhoods in Lahore have experienced recurring water‑logging. Agricultural fields, especially cotton and wheat nearing harvest, are at risk of moisture‑related damage, potentially affecting market supplies and farmer incomes.

In response, PDMA has urged households to secure outdoor items, clear drainage channels and avoid travel through flood‑prone routes. Authorities recommend that families keep emergency kits ready, stay tuned to official updates on radio, television and the PDMA mobile alert system, and cooperate with any evacuation orders issued by local police or district disaster management teams.

Local governments are mobilising additional resources, including sandbagging teams and mobile water‑pumping units, to mitigate the impact in high‑risk zones. Schools and commercial establishments in the most affected districts have been instructed to monitor conditions closely and suspend operations if safety cannot be guaranteed.

While the monsoon season is drawing to a close, officials stress that preparedness remains essential. Residents are asked to report clogged drains, broken embankments or any signs of rising water to the nearest disaster management office, helping to prevent larger-scale emergencies as the final rains sweep across Punjab.
