Security forces announced on Friday that an intelligence‑driven raid in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in the killing of thirteen terrorists, all of whom were identified as active combatants in militant outfits operating in the region.
The operation, described by the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) as an Intelligence‑Based Operation (IBO), was carried out jointly by the Pakistan Army and paramilitary units of the Frontier Corps. According to officials, the teams struck several suspected hideouts after actionable intelligence pinpointed the location of the militants, and the engagement concluded without any injury to security personnel.
North Waziristan has long been a stronghold for various extremist groups, including factions linked to the Tehrik‑i‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other regional outfits that have periodically launched attacks on civilian and military targets across the province. The recent clearance of thirteen operatives marks a continuation of a broader security push that intensified after the 2022 peace talks collapsed and insurgent activities resurged in the tribal districts.
Local authorities said the area will remain under heightened surveillance in the coming weeks to forestall any attempts at retaliation or regrouping. The provincial government highlighted the operation as evidence of the state’s unwavering commitment to dismantle militant networks that jeopardise the safety of residents in the formerly volatile frontier belt.
Security analysts note that while the elimination of a dozen militants does not eradicate the underlying threat entirely, it deprives insurgent groups of experienced fighters and disrupts their command structures, thereby contributing to a gradual improvement in law‑and‑order conditions for the tribal populace.
The successful raid underscores the coordinated effort of Pakistan’s armed forces and intelligence agencies to neutralise threats in the North Waziristan region, reinforcing the broader national strategy aimed at stabilising the frontier and protecting the lives and property of citizens living in the area.
